What is 15 to Finish? 15 to Finish is a campaign designed to encourage students attending or planning to attend Baton Rouge Community College to take 15 credits per semester to graduate on time.
NOTE: Not all programs qualify for 15 to Finish. Additionally, students returning after academic suspension may not be allowed to take 15 credit hours.
Why should I take 15 hours? |

Better performance An analysis of BRCC students over seven semesters shows that students enrolled in 15 or more credit hours a semester earned better grades and overall GPAs than those who took fewer than 15 credit hours a semester! (Source: BRCC Office of Institutional Research, 4/2016) |
Better value* 15 credit hours as “full-time” costs the same as 12 credit hours at BRCC. (Source: BRCC tuition and fee schedule). Students pay the same amount for attending 15 hours as they do 12. |
Graduate on time On-time graduation rates across the country are only 5% at two-year schools. Only 1.3% of students in Louisiana earn a 2-year degree in 2 years. (Source: Complete College America) |
Low on-time graduation rates On-time graduation rates across the country are only 5% at two-year schools. Only 1.3% of students in Louisiana earn a 2-year degree in 2 years. (Source: Complete College America) |
Wasted credit hours At two-year colleges, students typically graduate with 80.9 credits instead of the 60 credits required for most programs. It’s taking them, on average, 4.5 years to graduate with a two-year degree! (Source: Complete College America) |
Extra costs One extra year of public college costs students who don’t graduate in four years $18,598 in tuition and loan costs and $128,429 in “opportunity costs” (salary and retirement benefits) for a total cost of $147,026. (Source: Complete College America) |
Get to the job market with your two-year degree. “Slightly more than half of the good jobs [52%] across Louisiana today and those that will become available each year require a community or technical college degree or other credential.” (Source: Public Affairs Research Council of Louisiana) “Currently, only 28% of Louisiana adults have an associate degree or higher.” (Source: Georgetown University Center on Education and the Workforce) |
