Our Services
Baton Rouge Community College is committed to providing innovative career and technical education to veteran's reservists, and their families while providing the highest level of resources and referral information. BRCC is dedicated to providing the immediate education needed for its veterans and service members. The following services are available to enrolled veterans and those currently serving their families:
  • Advising and registration support
  • Peer tutoring
  • Career exploration and development
  • Financial aid and military benefits assistance
To Start Benefits at BRCC
  1. The student must apply and be accepted for admissions to Baton Rouge Community College.
  2. The student must submit  high school, college and military transcripts.
  3. The student must complete the veteran's application for benefits with the Veteran's Administration (VA). The website to apply is www.gibill.va.gov.
  4. The student must notify the VA School Certifying Official of their intent to attend courses and provide copies of the:
  • VA Education Benefits Request Form
  • Certificate of Eligibility (COE)
  • Copy of Schedule

Once all documents are submitted,BRCC's Veteran Affairs & Military Services Manager, Mr. Anthony L. Thompson, Sr. will certify your application via the Veteran Affairs Online Certification of Enrollment System (VA-ONCE). Mr. Thompson is located in the Bienvenue Student Center, Room 113 and can be reached at 225-216-8007.

 

Veteran's Responsibilities

As a recipient of Veterans Education Benefits, you are responsible for the following:

  • It is your responsibility to notify the Veteran Affairs & Military Services Manager of your status with BRCC.
  • It is your responsibility to provide a copy of your schedule along with the VA Education Benefits Request Form for every semester that you register for classes.
  • It is your responsibility to inform the Veteran Affairs & Military Services Manager when you add or drop a class; change your major; change your address; or withdraw.
  • The Department of Veteran's will not pay for the repeat of satisfactorily completed courses (grades of A, B, C), except under special circumstances.
  • It is your responsibility to maintain Satisfactory Academic Progress. If you are suspended by BRCC, your GI Bill benefits cannot be resumed until you have met the requirements for reinstatement to the college.
Extremely Important: All paperwork must be submitted TWO WEEKS before the start of classes. Any paper work received after the start of classes will be considered late and payment of benefits may be delayed. In this case, please make necessary payment arrangements to secure your classes.
