A freshman is a first-time student who has never attended college. Find our New Student Checklist here.


Step 1: Admissions application

Submit your admissions application.

Step 2:  Submit Application Fee

Each applicant must submit a non-refundable $10.00 application fee. This can be paid online or in person at our Bursar’s Office.

Step 3:  Submit High School Transcript or GED to Admissions Office

If you are a graduate of a Louisiana high school, May 2004 and after BRCC will request your high school transcript electronically.  If your electronic transcript is not received  by 30 days after you are admitted, you will need to bring in an official paper transcript in a sealed envelope to the Office of Enrollment Services.

If you are a graduate from a Louisiana high school prior to May 2004 or if you are a non-Louisiana high school graduate, home schooled, international or a GED recipient, you need to submit an official transcript of all high school work completed, or an official GED transcript.

Step 4:  Submit Placement scores

Provide ACT/SAT scores or take the COMPASS placement test at BRCC.  The placement test is administered in the Testing Center which is located in the Center for Academic Success in the Magnolia Building.


Step 5: Submit proof of immunization

Submit proof of immunization compliance if born after 1956. Click to download the compliance form.


Step 6: Submit proof of registration with selective service

Submit proof of registration with military selective service for male applicants between the ages of 18 and 25 (in compliance with State Law R.S. 17:3151). Register now with selective services at

Step 7: Attend New Student Orientation

It is mandatory for each first-time student to attend New Student Orientation.
