The Vehicle Maintenance and Repair Technologies Associate of Applied Science (AAS) is designed to provide students in the Auto Body Repair, Automotive Technology, and Diesel Heavy Truck Technology programs the opportunity to earn an associate degree. The 60 credit hour curriculum includes 15 credit hours of general education courses and completion of the Auto Body Repair, Automotive Technology, or Diesel Heavy Truck Technology technical diplomas (45 credit hours). Each of the technical diplomas includes at least one embedded credential that provides evidence of the attainment of increasingly sophisticated skills. Courses throughout the technical diplomas cover content that facilitates the attainment of industry-based certifications. In addition, the Automotive and Diesel programs include internship courses for which students work at local repair facilities to attain invaluable skills and professional industry contacts.

Successful completion of technical and general education coursework prepares graduates of the Vehicle Maintenance and Repair Technologies AAS to be competitive for entry-level positions that require technical skills as well as evidence of analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills. Even though the program is designed to prepare students for immediate employment and not for transfer, completion of the degree expands the education opportunities for graduates because the general education courses transfer to baccalaureate degree programs, should the student wish to pursue further education.
