Requirements
Students requesting services are required to bring in documentation regarding their disability. Documentation is necessary to determine if there is a substantial limitation to a major life activity such as learning, walking, talking, seeing, hearing, etc. It also provides information the college needs in order to consider accommodations for equal access. Documentation of disability is kept in a secured site in the Counseling & Accessibility Services (CAS) office, separate from the student's college file.
CAS uses the documentation to:
- Determine if the documentation certifies that a disability is present
- Determine if the documentation shows that the disability causes a substantial limitation to a major life activity such as learning, hearing, seeing, speaking, walking etc.
- Determine eligibility for specific accommodations for equal access.
Responsibility for Documentation
The student is responsible for providing documentation of the disability to the college. For more information about the documentation requirements for specific disabilities, please refer to the Forms tab.
