Not all subjects are covered during center hours. Please call the DLASC front desk, check the DLASC Canvas page, or email us at dlasc@mybrcc.edu to check availability.
Sign-In
When on campus, scan the QR code at the front desk and complete the sign-in form. You will be asked to enter your student number (L#). If you do not know your L#, the Front Desk Assistant will help you locate it.
In the online environment, keep your email address and student number (L#) at hand since you will be asked to provide these.
Come Prepared
Attend class. Take notes. Read the textbook. Try the assignments. Come with questions. Be prepared to work with the tutor.
Appreciate Peer Tutoring
Tutors are students like you. They are trained and knowledgeable, but they don’t know everything. They do not evaluate your work or guarantee grades. They provide appropriate academic assistance and perspective.
Understand Drop-in Tutoring/Tutoring by Appointment
Sessions are limited to 45 minutes unless there is no one waiting for tutoring.
Guide your Learning
Tutors will work with you, not for you. They help you think through concepts, suggest ways to approach your work, and share study strategies. They do not do problems for you, provide answers, write your essays, or edit writing.
Improve Your Learning
Tutors will encourage you to work on your own after some assistance, so you can improve your learning and give others a chance to receive help.
Re-Think Computer Use
The DLASC has computers, tablets, and headphones available for in-Center use. Computer technology is intended for academic work only.
Reduce Noise
When on campus, please be respectful of all in the center. Silence your cell phone, take calls outside the center, and keep your voice down so as not to disturb others.
Some of these things are relevant in the online environment as well. We recommend a quiet study space free of disturbance when you attend online tutoring. Having said that we realize that this is not always possible. Our tutors will work with you to make the best of any situation.
