BRCC will serve as a client for students in the class to create an AI-backed solution
to a real-world challenge
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
January 29, 2025
BATON ROUGE – Baton Rouge Community College Provost and Vice Chancellor for Workforce
and Student Development Dr. Sarah Barlow recently presented a challenge in front of
approximately 30 LSU and three BRCC students in the 4000-level computer science and
engineering class at LSU. The challenge? Utilize AI to ensure all BRCC students have
successfully completed prerequisites before enrolling in a necessary class.
Thanks to a great partnership with FMOL Health | Our Lady of the Lake Health and LSU
professors Henry Hays, James Ghawaly and Keith Mills, BRCC is excited to work with
these students to tackle a real-world challenge and develop AI solutions to make the
student experience at BRCC even better. The fact that burgeoning computer science
students from both LSU and BRCC get to be the ones to develop the solution is a point
of pride for our institutions of higher education.
Joining Provost Barlow on the BRCC team working with this class are Raven Dora, Dean
of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics and Dr. Barbara Hasek, Assistant
Vice Chancellor of Institutional Effectiveness and Research.
