Back to Top ↑The Office of Group Benefits (OGB) administers group medical and life insurance for state employees.
Plan Details
The plan year runs from January 1 to December 31.
Payroll Deduction Info
Premiums are deducted a month in advance. (e.g., January deductions pay for February coverage).
Premiums are deducted on a bi-weekly basis from 24 of your 26 annual paychecks.
Coverage Waiting Period
As a new employee, there is a waiting period before coverage begins. Coverage starts the first of the month following the first full month of employment.
Example:
- Hire Date: January 1st → Coverage begins February 1st.
- Hire Date: January 2nd (or later in Jan) → Coverage begins March 1st.
Note: Should an employee fail to enroll within 30 days of hire, they may enroll during the open enrollment period in October.
Flexible Benefits Premium Conversion Plan
Employees enrolled in OGB health or life plans are automatically enrolled in this plan, which allows premiums to be deducted on a pre-tax basis.

Back to Top ↑Supplemental plans include dental, vision, disability, term life, AD&D, hospital indemnity, critical illness, accident, and identity theft protection.
First Time Logging In?
You will need to log in to the enrollment site using a specific PIN format.
- Username: Your Banner Employee ID number.
- Initial PIN: Last 4 digits of SSN + Last 2 digits of Birth Year.
- Example: If SSN ends in 1122 and birth year is 1968, your PIN is 112268.
You will be required to change your PIN upon first login.
Retirement & Social Security
Back to Top ↑Retirement plan participation is required by state law. The current employee contribution rate is 8% of gross salary.

Important: Social Security
Government employees in Louisiana do not contribute to Social Security. The monies normally contributed to Social Security serve as your contribution to your state retirement plan. Read more about the Government Pension Offset.
Optional Investments (403b & 457)
You may elect to participate in optional deferred compensation plans. These are strictly employee contributions; there is no state match.
