Baton Rouge Community College (BRCC) is gearing up to host Arts Fest XII, a vibrant celebration of arts and culture set to take place from March 18 to 21 at the BRCC Mid City Campus on 201 Community College Drive. The Baton Rouge community and public are invited to attend all of the scheduled events.
Now in its 13th year, Arts Fest is a week-long event for BRCC, bringing together writers, poets, artists, musicians, and the community at large. This year’s theme, "Create. Imagine. Art: Transforming Community through Creative Expression," aligns with the college’s ongoing 25th-anniversary celebrations.
“Arts Fest offers a platform for BRCC to showcase some of our talented students and faculty to the Baton Rouge community, and introduce them to distinguished national talent visiting the Capital Region,” said BRCC Chancellor Willie E. Smith. “It’s also an opportunity for the community to come together in the heart of Baton Rouge to unite and celebrate the power of the Arts, and how it can help transform lives.”
The Arts Fest will emphasize mental, physical, and spiritual well-being during the weeklong celebration, beginning Monday, March 18. The event will include celebrity guests, a special art exhibition, musical performances, the release of a BRCC produced documentary, speaking presentations, theatrical performances, the Black & Rouge art journal reading release and reception, a Sneaker Ball, and much more.
The lineup for Arts Fest XIII will include Louisiana State Poet Laureate, Alison Pelegrine; award-winning poet and actor, Chancelier “Xero” Skidmore; television personality star, Toya Johnson-Rushing; New York Times bestselling author Omar Tyree; Screenwriter Arthur Harris; musical group Yellow Door; BRCC produced The Voices from the Bayou documentary; and others.
Arts Fest XIII is sponsored by BRCC’s Student Government Association and the BRCC Liberal Arts Division. For more information and the full list of events and schedule, visit www.mybrcc.edu/arts-fest/index.php.
