Baton Rouge Community College (BRCC) announced the promotion of Christopher Johnson to the Assistant Chief of Police for the BRCC Police Department (BRCCPD).
“Christopher Johnson is a tremendous asset to our college community,” said Baton Rouge Community College Chief of Police Genoria Tilley. “His extensive law enforcement knowledge, as well as his experience in assisting the Baton Rouge and college communities, will serve him well as he takes on this new leadership role.”
Johnson, a Baton Rouge native, has served as a law enforcement professional for more than 34 years. He began his career with the Baton Rouge Police Department (BRPD) in 1988. At BRPD, he served in various roles and divisions, including as a detective in the Homicide/Armed Robbery Division, where he served as a supervisor for more than 18 years. Additionally, he served as a Commander in the Major Assault, and Financial Crime Divisions.
After 29 years of service, he retired from BRPD as a Shift Lieutenant and joined the Southern University Police Department for one year as a detective. Following his time at Southern University, Johnson joined the BRCCPD in 2019, and has served the past four years as a Police Sergeant.
“I am honored to serve in this new capacity as the Assistant Chief of Police, and to continue my efforts of protecting the members of the BRCC community,” said Johnson. “I am truly thankful and blessed to have served in a profession that I love for the past 30 years. Giving back to the community is both rewarding and fulfilling.”
BRCC’s Police Department is charged with the responsibility for on-campus security, law enforcement, emergency preparedness, traffic, and parking for BRCC’s eight campuses. The department is committed to providing and maintaining a safe environment for employees, students, and visitors at the college.
