Baton Rouge Community College (BRCC) is pleased to announce that its spring 2024 commencement ceremony will be held on Tuesday, May 21, at 10 a.m. at the Raising Canes River Center, 275 S. River Rd. This year’s special ceremony marks the completion of academic journeys for hundreds of BRCC students and culminates in the 25th anniversary celebrations of the college.
BRCC Chancellor Dr. Willie E. Smith Sr. will serve as the commencement speaker in a fitting tribute to the year-long anniversary celebration. Dr. Smith is the sixth chancellor of the institution and has been at the helm of the college since June 2019. Chancellor Smith has played a key role in developing a culture of excellence and community engagement at BRCC. Under his leadership the college has experienced record enrollment growth, with the institution seeing its largest enrollment of 11,120 students this past fall. In addition, the institution also received the largest financial donation on record of $12 million from Our Lady of the Lake Health System.
"Commencement is a special day that signifies more than just academic achievement; it's a celebration of dreams realized and challenges overcome. As Baton Rouge Community College marks our 25th anniversary, we celebrate the success of today's graduates, along with the enduring impact of BRCC’s dedication to education, student success, workforce development, and community engagement over a quarter of a century," said Chancellor Smith. "Addressing the class of 2024 is particularly meaningful to me because these graduates represent BRCC's commitment to excellence. They stand ready to contribute to our region's workforce and carry forward the legacy of hard work and high standards that have defined our college since its founding in 1998."
During the ceremony, degrees will be conferred to students who completed their studies this past spring and last fall. The event will also be live-streamed on the BRCC Facebook page and YouTube channel.
