It is with great enthusiasm that I extend a heartfelt welcome to our new LCTCS System President, Richard Nelson. Currently serving as Secretary of the Louisiana Department of Revenue, President Nelson was appointed last week and will begin his tenure with LCTCS on Jan. 1. My leadership team and I are excited to kick off the new year under his guidance.
President Nelson is widely known for addressing issues in our state that closely align with BRCC’s mission and value proposition, such as workforce development and driving our state’s economy. We look forward to working with him to continue advancing BRCC, the Capital Region, and Louisiana in these and other critical areas, and to fully supporting his efforts to move the entire System forward.
His leadership arrives at a pivotal time. As Louisiana faces evolving workforce needs and opportunities, and as BRCC continues to experience unprecedented growth, I am confident that President Nelson’s vision will guide us toward even greater impact during this exciting new chapter for our System.
What we do here at BRCC is fulfilling, motivating and inspiring work. And we are deeply committed not only to our mission, but also to the mission of LCTCS. We expand access to affordable, high-quality education; we prepare students for meaningful careers; we build partnerships with business and industry; and we foster economic growth throughout our region and our state. Together with LCTCS and our new President, we will continue to empower students, uplift families, and transform lives.
Please join me in welcoming President Nelson to our LCTCS family, and thank you again for all you do for BRCC and LCTCS.
Sincerely,
Willie E. Smith, Sr., Ed.D.
Chancellor
