Finding Strength Through Service: Taylor Chapman

Taylor Chapman is a dedicated and determined nursing student at BRCC. As a single mother and campus leader, she was recently elected President of the Student Government Association (SGA). She is committed to building a future based on service, resilience, and inspiration. Before her time at BRCC, Taylor proudly served in the U.S. Navy.

"I originally attended BRCC several years ago under a different major," said Taylor. "I already knew the quality of education I could get here, especially for the cost. Being a single mother, you have to think about everything from a cost perspective, and this was definitely the best education I could get on a modest income.”

While growing up in the area, Taylor always had BRCC on her radar. However, what truly inspired her to pursue a college education were encouraging words from her grandmother, who was a nurse and always told her she should become one too.

Taylor plans to continue her education beyond BRCC, aiming for a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) through LSUA, with aspirations to become a flight nurse and eventually a nurse anesthetist.

Active on campus, she serves on the SGA, is President of the National Society of Leadership and Success, and a member of Phi Theta Kappa. She advocates for students to share their concerns and ideas, emphasizing student voices in campus improvements.

Despite a busy schedule, Taylor thrives through structure, balance, and outdoor exploration. Her advice to others: take advantage of BRCC Foundation scholarships and set a routine that includes study time and self-care.

Taylor’s journey is one of perseverance and transformation. She represents the spirit of BRCC—where students shape purposeful futures through education, leadership, and determination.
