Action Requested by the End of Fall 2026
Current students declared in Nursing, Diagnostic Medical Sonography, or Surgical Technology who are awaiting admission to their selective program should declare the Associate of Science in Health Studies as their major.
Health Studies provides a healthcare-focused degree pathway that keeps your coursework and academic progress connected to your educational goals.
Changing your declared major to Health Studies does not prevent you from applying to Nursing, Diagnostic Medical Sonography, or Surgical Technology. You must still meet the requirements and follow the application timeline for your intended selective-admission program.
Who Should Change Their Major?
This information applies to current BRCC students who:
- Are declared in Nursing, Diagnostic Medical Sonography, or Surgical Technology;
- Have not yet been admitted to the selective-admission portion of that program; and
- Are continuing to complete coursework while preparing for program admission.
Why BRCC Is Making This Change
Health Studies gives students a declared, healthcare-focused degree pathway while they continue preparing for selective Nursing and Allied Health programs. It also supports students who may choose to complete the Health Studies degree, transfer into an aligned bachelor's program, or pursue another healthcare-related educational pathway.
