Baton Rouge Community College (BRCC) proudly launches the Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment (EVSE) Technician Training Program — a hands-on, non-credit course designed to prepare students for high-demand careers in electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure.
Developed in partnership with Louisiana Clean Fuels and funded in part by the GUMBO Grant Initiative, this program builds the skills needed to operate, maintain, and install EV charging stations. Training follows guidance from the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) certification framework.
Course Overview
This 160-hour hybrid program blends classroom learning with hands-on lab experience to develop real-world technical skills. Students gain a deep understanding of EV charging systems — from electrical principles to safety procedures and advanced troubleshooting.
Module 1 — Electrical Principles & Safety
Learn fundamental electrical concepts and safety practices used in EV charging systems.
Module 2 — Understanding Power Supply
Explore how charging stations draw, convert, and regulate electric power efficiently.
Module 3 — Roles, Repair Orders & Communication Standards
Understand maintenance procedures, system roles, and how vehicles communicate with chargers.
Module 4 — Field Practices & Documentation
Complete capstone projects and field simulations that mirror real EVSE installation and service work.
The curriculum also features broadband and installation modules, guest lectures from industry experts, and access to BRCC career-readiness resources.
